A Sacred Commitment to Serve: The Swearing-In of Representative Max Brooks

Wednesday, January 8, 2025, marked a moment both ceremonial and transformative - my swearing-in to the Colorado House of Representatives. This day is more than the recitation of an oath; it is the solemn affirmation of a profound duty to serve the people of House District 45 and the state of Colorado. It is a covenant between myself and the citizens who have entrusted me with this responsibility - a commitment to defend liberty, foster prosperity, and ensure justice for all citizens.

Standing in the chambers of the Colorado State Capitol, I took the oath of office with a spirit of humility and reverence. With every word spoken, I pledged to uphold the Constitution, preserve the rights of the people, and labor tirelessly to strengthen the foundation of our democratic republic.

A calling of public service is not a position of entitlement - it is a role of sacrifice, responsibility, and resolve. To serve the people is to set aside personal ambition and dedicate oneself fully to the well-being of others. I understand that this honor demands vigilance, courage, and wisdom to face the pressing challenges of our time.

As I step into this role, I do so with eyes wide open to the work that lies ahead. I carry the values of Castle Rock and Douglas County to the State Capitol - values rooted in faith, family, freedom, and hard work. These principles will guide my efforts to craft and support legislation that not only addresses the needs of today but also prepares Colorado for a brighter and more secure tomorrow.

The Majority’s Manipulation: How HB25-1133 Was Forced Through Committee

House Bill 25-1133 - a bill that prohibits the sale of ammunition to anyone under the age of 21 - should have died in the Business Affairs & Labor Committee. The votes were there to stop it. The arguments against it were clear and compelling. Yet, in a blatant act of political manipulation, the majority party ensured its passage by swapping out a "no" vote from their party for a member who had already signaled she would vote “yes.” When faced with losing a bill deemed “important” because its primary sponsor holds a leadership position in the majority party, they simply changed the committee’s makeup to guarantee the outcome they wanted.
