Brooks Begins Crafting Impactful Legislation for Colorado

As we prepare for the upcoming legislative session, I’m excited to share that I’m in the process of lining up five key bills to introduce. While I can’t reveal the full details just yet, I can promise you that these pieces of legislation will reflect the voices and concerns I heard while knocking door to door during the campaign.

The conversations I had with residents across House District 45 - about property taxes, public safety, education, and infrastructure - continue to shape my priorities. Every door I knocked on offered a new perspective, a unique challenge, or a shared vision for a better future. Those moments remain at the top of my mind as I craft legislation that will directly address the issues that matter most to you.

Each of these bills is being designed not only to benefit our district but to gain bipartisan support. I’m focused on solutions that are practical, achievable, and impactful—bills that will make a real difference for Colorado families while staying true to the principles that unite us.

The Majority’s Manipulation: How HB25-1133 Was Forced Through Committee

House Bill 25-1133 - a bill that prohibits the sale of ammunition to anyone under the age of 21 - should have died in the Business Affairs & Labor Committee. The votes were there to stop it. The arguments against it were clear and compelling. Yet, in a blatant act of political manipulation, the majority party ensured its passage by swapping out a "no" vote from their party for a member who had already signaled she would vote “yes.” When faced with losing a bill deemed “important” because its primary sponsor holds a leadership position in the majority party, they simply changed the committee’s makeup to guarantee the outcome they wanted. This is not how representative government should function. The bill itself is a direct infringement on the Constitutional rights of 18-20-year-old citizens.
